In the metallurgical process industry, there is an attempt to reduce CO2 emissions globally by optimising production processes to make them more efficient in terms of energy and material consumption and by investing in recycling operations.

At Bet-Ker, we work with our customers to meet this challenge by actively developing alternative, recycling-based solutions. They enable us to increase the recycling and reuse rates of the materials used by our customers and to reduce the raw material costs.

One of our most recent tests was the wear lining mass used in SSAB Europe Oy’s steel ladles. In the test, the raw material base was partially replaced by the steel ladle wear lining waste material. Our main observation was that the target process was able to successfully extend the life cycle of the lining material through recycling. This means that we were able to successfully reuse waste from the steel ladle wear linings in the same application.

Our test was unique, as a similar raw material base had not previously been successfully tested in the relevant operating process and conditions.  During the trial period, the material was also exposed to varying process conditions, which contributed to the significance of the trial results as well.

Our aim in the near future is to explore how we could use recycled material in the lining of steel ladles on a larger scale.
